Goodbye Serendipity, Hello Wild Peach

/

I’m so sad that Serendipity Studio, the gallery that first invited me to show my pottery at a Real art gallery, is closing soon. Serendipity was a lovely, welcoming space with a great sense of community. Through their special events, I got to know several of the artists and it felt like home, going there monthly to bring more pieces. I want to thank Jason and Tiffany Pfitzer for helping me become REAL. Not just someone playing with clay, but a real Potter with a capital P. It was at Serendipity when I first got to see the joy and delight in someone’s eye when they found one of my pieces that spoke to them.

Life changes are hard. But when one door closes, another one opens.

(What this has to do with a fish? Nothing. but this fish … I adore this fish. He’s not going to any galleries. He’s staying home with me. Someday I’ll share the story of this fish.)

This afternoon I picked up all my pieces at Serendipity and took them to my car. My heart was heavy.

But then, prompted by Julie Dent, one of my favorite artists at Serendipity, I picked up my heart, gathered some courage and drove straight to The Maker’s Circle on North Phillips. Soon to be renamed as Wild Peach & Co. and moving to the Harvester building on 6th Street in downtown Sioux Falls. I adore the owner Bobbi already and I’m excited to see her vision come alive in their new space. She seemed very excited to host my pottery … and has even threatened to claim one of the two mugs I brought on my initial visit. I need to bring her more mugs! Bobbi tells me there will be a florist in the new space who will make the space into a forest. Doesn’t that sound amazing? I think my little pots and pendants will fit right in. The gnomes are already making plans to settle in by the trees. LOL.

My Latest Pottery Adventures

In other news, I decided to make a flourless chocolate stout cake earlier this month and the recipe I was starting from said to put the batter in 6 to 7 ramekins. I only have 2 ramekins. I had to improvise. BUT that of course meant that I needed to go make some ramekins out of clay so that NEXT time I’ll have enough ramekins. There are now several ramekins waiting for their first kiln firing. Then I’ll get to glaze them and they’ll go back to the kiln for the glaze firing. Don’t worry, I will have extras for selling!

In the meantime, here are some of my gnomes and mugs and a little clay snail posing with one of my youngest’s adorable crocheted squids at Spencer Furniture at the Wine & Design event last month. If you are in need of furniture, flooring or household decor, go see Sue. She seriously has beautiful furniture that actually lasts. I adore Sue and always buy my furniture from her.
